How it all started

My interest in photography began in 2014 when I, like many other 13-year-olds, received a Polaroid camera for Christmas. While my love for that rose gold Instax camera with an innate tendency to print photos completely blacked out died a long time ago, I never quite lost my love for photography. in 2021 I decided to study photography in my last year of high school. The subject provided me with the chance to properly study cameras and their complex setting to allow me to capture a set of images that i decided to create as a light-hearted memoir to the pandemic. Later, in 2022 I purchased 3 cameras on eBay: an Olympus om10, an Olympus Miju II, and a Canon Powershot Digital. Since then, I have religiously carried about these three cameras, capturing every special moment in my life. I have every kind of photo from film scenery of reservoirs that I walked about on dates to bold and happy digital photos that I only vaguely remember taking with my friends. I created an Instagram account...

All Things Photography: My Favourite Equipment

Since I've made a name for myself as the appointed camera friend who has all the recommendations, I've made this post to go through all the cameras and accessories I use for taking photos. The majority of my cameras have been found on eBay, they unfortunately can't be linked (cause I bought them) but I would recommend having a wee look about there to check out the other cameras being sold there   The Olympus Miju ii   I really love this camera because it's small enough that it fits comfortably in all my bags. It is a point-and-shoot style film camera, so it is fairly easy to use. There are 3 mechanisms on the camera: a hook button on the side to open the film door to insert the film onto, a zoom-in and out feature, and the shutter button, which can be held down for longer to operate the flash. This camera comes to most places with me, and has seen some stunning views and tragic nights out x The Canon PowerShot A2500  This is my most used camera by...

Getting Technical

When getting into photography, one of the most challenging aspects of any camera is understanding all the functions, and how they work together to create an image. So in this post, I'm breaking down the basics of camera settings and how they influence the outcome of an image. Let's get technical baby. Above is the exposure triangle, which is comprised of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. These 3 settings work together to achieve image exposure. In more basic terms, all 3 affect how much or little light is let into the camera when an image is being taken. Depending on how they are set, an image can be produced over or under exposed Example: Overexposed Image Aperture: The aperture, or lens opening, is how wide the lens is when taking an image. The higher the aperture number is set, the smaller the opening is. Therefore, if you have a higher aperture you have less light being allowed to pass through the camera lens. So if we're in a bright setting to take a photo, we would se...

My First Attempt at Going Pro

So, back in 2020/2021, I was lent an incredible Nikon d5100 af-s nikkor by my uncles. This was so I had my own DSLR camera to complete my 6th-year folio throughout the various lockdowns. Well, as things would have it I still have this camera (with permission!) and get to use it for all things photography that I want.   Then, in September last year, I got a phone call from one of my uncles. He'd set up and offered for me to go into one of the flats that their company had recently furnished (Shout out to Get Fully Furnished! check them out here:  Get Fully Furnished | Premier Furniture Packages in Scotland ) So I packed my bags, grabbed my camera and set off to the warehouse up by Alexandra Park to get my design brief and keys. The next thing I knew, after a slightly stressful drive on the M8 and having to get my uncle to parallel park for me so I didn't cause a traffic jam, I was in the flat and ready to go. The plan of action was to go around the flat and take photos o...

My Top 5 Photos ever :)

Here's a wee run-through of my 5 favourite photos I've taken (so far) and the stories behind them :) 1. Glasgow Uni: I took this photo in 2021 before I was accepted into Strathclyde. The photo is part of a set of images that I took on a Nikon dx 1600 camera for a midterm folio for my photography class. I walked about the West end Of Glasgow with my mum and we spent the day revisiting all the places she loved to go to when she lived there. The raw image looked nowhere near as cool but I saw the potential, and after some editing, I got this!. this is one of my favourite photos because it was the first photo that I looked at once it was finished that I felt 100% proud of. 2. St Vincent Street: This photo was taken with my film camera. While the details are blurred in smaller formats due to the point-and-shoot camera focus range, the low light specific film I used ( CineStill 800T) makes the lighting from the restaurants look so atmospheric and calm. The reason I love thi...
